berkeley, christie smith, "today in the bay." >>> happening right now, the city of san jose this morning starts clearing out a homeless camp that's popped up near maneta airport. more than 100 people now calling that area home. "today in the bay's" bob redell is live in the south bay and he has more details on the upcoming removal. bob, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. if you're not familiar with this area, we're on spring street. this homeless campground occupies a large swath of city owned land on spring street. it started last year with a couple tents and then in january its population exploded when another encampment was shut down and people migrated here. today about 100 people live here in tents scattered throughout. the city has given residents notice to leave today they're going to force them out. the city's point man on homeless camps tells us they'll clean up this area around 9:00 this morning. nonprofits have reportedly been out here to meet with these people to let them know about temporary housing solutions. the city and people who work around here want t

cameras. san jose is on your left, palo alto on the right. we're starting to see a couple of showers. it's weather that could have an impact on plans for folks celebrating easter sunday. let's check in with meteorologist rob meida who's tracking spring showers. what's going on, rob? >> the picture that you showed, the contrast between palo alto and here is pretty dramatic. look at the view off to san francisco now. let's show you the radar. the south bay and the rain on the santa cruz mountains is spilling into the valley. over towards sunnyvale. now sfo as that shot showed us, the rain is coming up from the south and ongoing showers in the north bay. what we have now is increasing moisture, increasing lift to the atmosphere as this area of low pressure which has been sitting off shore. by the time we head into easter sunday morning i think it's going to be sitting on top of the bay area. now the rain has arrived. rain off and on at times. not nonstop rain but you may hear a rumble or two of thunder especially in the north bay tonight. plan on keeping the umbrella on stand by for easter

with developing story i san jose police looking for a gunman who they say shot a man in an apparent drive-by shooting. >> here is the place we're talking about. the address is 1720 hopkins and drive. that is a middle school area. let me push in and show you the area we're talking about. this again a middle school nestled in a community. police said the victim between 18 and 20 years old was standing on the sidewalk when a light colored guess you the drove by and someone opened fire. the victim remains in a hospital this morning their condition remains unknown. that happened just about 2 mi. away from monday's deadly officer involved shooting. authorities have identified bruce barthelemy as the san jose police officer was shot and killed a man they said tried to ram him with a car. this is video from our helicopter partnership with abc seven news. the officer, members of san jose metro unit, were dressed in plain clothes when they noticed a suspicious car and found out it was stolen. the passenger in the stolen car is now facing several charges. >> a train hit and killed a pedestrian on th

to the hospital, we're told he's recovering. no arrests have been made. >>> 5:04. san jose city council will debate a homeless proposal days after clearing out a large encampment. we are live with a look at what the leaders will be considering. >> some people cleared out of the encampment near the airport have moved down to the creek beds, like this one here, near the guadelupe river. city officials are going to take this issue head-on after last week's cleanup of the encampment near coleman and heading, members of the city council have been coming up with ways to stop encampments else there. only a small portion of those there accepted help from outreach agencies. a plan has been described as a tough love approach when it comes to enforcing a no trespassing policy, the city is hiring a security company to patrol the encampment. we looked to see if anyone had come back but the land was clear. you're looking at a live picture in downtown san jose, very close to the hp pavilion with homeless people sleeping on the bench. some moved to the creek beds, they have scattered, but at 6:00 we'll

near downtown san jose last night. police say a teenaged boy aroec approached a man at 19th street not far from san jose high school. they say he demanded money and stabbed the man. a few minutes later, the same suspect confronted another man three blocks away. the suspect hit that man in the head. both victims were treated for minor injuries. the suspect did manage to escape with some cash. >>> the woman accused of kicking a toddler in golden gate park is back in court this morning. i'll take it from here. sabrina bell was supposed to be arraigned last week but police say she could not appear because she was yelling and screaming in her holding cell. police say bell kicked a young girl in the chest on march 11th, knocking her to the pavement. the girl was not seriously injured. bell also allegedly threatened the young mother at the park. >>> the cyclist accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian in san francisco's castro district facing felony vehicular manslaughter charges today. prosecutors say he ran multiple red lights and stop signs last year before running into the victim a

will continue to have cooler weather coming up. >> catherine: a man was shot to death this morning in san jose. it happened around 4:30 a-m on murtha drive near capitol avenue. police found the body of a hispanic man in the middle of the street. investigators still have no idea what happened. this was the ninth homicide this year. >> catherine: san jose business and labor leaders say an increase in the minimum wage will be an economic stimulus. workers at phil's coffee in downtown san jose are among the thousands who now have a pay hike from 8 to 10 dollars an hour. the increase took effect today. the controversial 'measure d' was on last fall's ballot - and was passed by just over 60-percent of voters. for many workers - it means as much as an extra $80 a week. >> living in the san jose is not cheap and we're all also students. we can go out a little bit more and it all adds up. >> catherine: the city's downtown association was among the business groups at first opposed to the measure. but members now say it's a good thing-- and hope that workers will spend the extra money in san jose. >> cat
